Time doesn’t necessarily heal all wounds, especially wounds left by accidents, burns, cancer treatments, diabetes and other conditions. But NMC Health’s Wound Care Team is here to help with innovative technology and dedication to patient care.

Our superhero team is trained to use advanced wound healing with state-of-the-art wound healing treatments to help you return to a healthy and better quality of life.

Advanced wound healing is a highly specialized process tailored to the specific needs of each patient. Through our process, many patients have overcome their hard-to-heal wound and gotten back to their regular activities.

Identifying Wounds

Wounds are difficult to heal for a variety of reasons. Our expert team provides comprehensive nutritional, infectious and vascular evaluations to develop a specialized, individualized treatment plan for your wound and your body’s needs.

You might need advanced wound care if you’ve had a wound that isn’t healing after 30 days, has caused more pain or increased drainage and appears red or has increased redness.

Some wounds are difficult to treat because of an underlying illness such as diabetes or heart disease. Maybe you struggle with a circulatory condition like peripheral arterial disease or peripheral venous disease, or maybe the wounds are left by a spider bite or an accident.

If you are having issues with healing, contact your primary care provider and ask them about advance healing options.

Treatment Plan

The NMC Health Wound Care Team will work with you to create a treatment plan just for you. Advanced wound care is different for each patient and may include things like biologic dressings, inpatient and outpatient consultations, skin grafting, tissue flaps, surgical debridement (removal of dead/dying tissue) or hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

At NMC Health Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center, a multidiscipline team specializing in wound care, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine and infectious disease work together to help ensure positive results.

Sometimes, lifestyle changes are needed to properly heal a wound. This means adequate hydration, diet and exercise. At the same time, some bad habits may have to be stopped. Smoking and vaping reduce blood flow and limit your body’s ability to heal. If we’re going to give your cells that “double espresso jolt” they need to heal, it may also mean you have to choose eggs instead of donuts for breakfast. Whatever changes may be needed, our care team will work with you every step of the way.

Patience and Discipline

Keep in mind, despite advanced technology like the hyperbaric chamber being pretty remarkable, wounds will not heal overnight. Treatments will speed up your body’s ability to regenerate healthy cells and tissue on its own, but wounds will still take time to heal properly.

Advanced wound care may stop and even reverse some of the damage of non-healing wounds, but patience is a virtue. Typically, all treatment consists of a long-term plan. In addition, the healing process often includes a lot of discipline on the part of the patient. Whether it’s tending to dressings, attending appointments or making necessary dietary and lifestyle changes, positive outcomes are usually the result of a slow and steady process and consistent care.

The NMC Wound Care Team will walk you through every step and keep track of your progress. Because your health is our focus, we will do our best to get you feeling your best!
