Sweetening the Workplace At Our Hesston Clinic

Mindy, a Registration Specialist at our Hesston clinic, brings a special ingredient to our workplace: delicious homemade treats!

Mindy started baking to remember her late stepfather and recreate his cherished recipes. “After my stepdad passed away, family members often wished they had his recipes,” she says. She began bringing her desserts to the office that she made “from the top of my head.” She found it was a great way to connect with her coworkers. Mindy’s unique, spur-of-the-moment baking ideas are often her favorites.

She believes “food always makes others feel better.” Lisa, our ambulatory manager who oversees our Hesston clinic, agrees. “These small acts of kindness are powerful in helping people connect. In a busy clinic, it’s easy for people to focus only on their own tasks.”

Mindy’s treats bring staff together. “Most times, team members will see a dessert and ask another to eat with them. I guess no one wants to eat alone,” she says. Lisa adds, “When Mindy brings in a homemade treat, it creates a natural break in the day. It’s a moment for people to step away from their desks, gather, and share something sweet! Even a short moment acts as an icebreaker, and conversations always start!”

For Mindy, these personal touches are more than just food. They are about sharing skills and sparking talks. “It’s sharing your skills with others.” Lisa stressed how important this is. She said, “These acts of kindness show a sense of belonging. This can really help with job happiness and keeping staff. We love ‘treat days!'” Mindy’s baking is top-notch, but her jokes and bright personality also bring joy. This shows how small acts and a kind spirit can truly make a workplace better.

Mindy’s sweet gifts perfectly show the warm, connected culture we build every day at NMC Health. It’s a place where everyone’s unique talents help create a supportive and happy atmosphere.
