NMC Health Names Cardiac Rehab Program Medical Director

Koontz,-JenniferNewton Medical Center has named Jennifer Scott Koontz, MD, as medical director of the hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation program. In this role, Dr. Koontz will oversee the program as well as evaluate each patient during the rehabilitation process.

Dr. Koontz is board certified in family medicine and fellowship-trained in sports medicine. She practices at the hospital’s Newton Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine clinic, where she provides a variety of diagnostic and surgical procedures related to sports medicine and non-operative orthopaedics.

“We are pleased to have Dr. Koontz join our cardiac rehabilitation team,” says Steve Kelly, Newton Medical Center president and chief executive officer. “Her leadership and broad range of medical expertise will be tremendous assets to the program.”

Newton Medical Center’s cardiac rehabilitation program includes medically-supervised education and exercise for those who have suffered a cardiac event. This six- to 12-week outpatient program is designed to limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiac illness and control certain cardiac symptoms. Physician referral is required to participate in the program.
