Newton Medical Center (NMC) announces today the addition of pulmonary rehabilitation, its newest service offering.

Pulmonologist John Flesher, MD, will serve as the medical director.

“Pulmonary rehabilitation programs are one of the best ways patients with respiratory disorders can improve their symptoms, exercise capacity and health-related quality of life,” says Dr. Flesher. “It’s exciting that we’re able to give patients this resource to help them manage their respiratory issues closer to home.”

The pulmonary rehabilitation program at NMC provides a monitored and medically- supervised environment to help manage the symptoms of respiratory disease. Overseen by Dr. Flesher, the team of registered nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and dieticians design a comprehensive plan specific to each patient’s needs. Patients in the program meet with their team twice a week, for nine to eighteen weeks, as medically needed.

Physician referrals are necessary to participate in the program. Those who don’t see a pulmonologist or primary care provider can call 316-804-6242, and the pulmonary rehabilitation team will assist in obtaining a referral. Pulmonary rehabilitation is covered in full or in part by Medicare and most private insurance carriers.
