NMC Health is proud to announce multiple upgrades to its surgery and imaging departments. Starting this month, we’re adding three powerful new systems to help patients get the clearest pictures and the most accurate procedures possible. These systems include: The Canon ULTIMAX-i FPD Multipurpose System, the Canon RadPRO OMNERA 400T Digital Radiography System, and the GE OEC 3D C-Arm.
These upgrades will help patients and providers as follows:
- GE OEC 3D C-Arm: More Accurate Surgery. This machine is a great new tool for complex operations. It takes clear, CT-like 2D and 3D pictures right inside the operating room while the surgeon is working.
- Help for Patients: Surgeons can see small parts of the body from every angle. This guidance helps them make precision cuts and place hardware (like screws in the spine) exactly where it needs to go. This can make surgery faster and safer, leading to better outcomes and quicker recovery.
- Help for Providers: When a doctor sends a patient for complex surgery, real-time 3D verification assists the operation. Better, clearer and faster anatomical visualization, guides surgeons through a variety of minimally-invasive spinal, orthopedics and trauma procedures. This leads to fewer problems after surgery and better long-term results for the patient’s mobility.
- Canon ULTIMAX-i FPD: Flexible Tools and Clear Pictures. This is an advanced imaging system used for general imaging and many types of non-invasive procedures in urinary, gastrointestinal (digestive tract), and orthopedic (musculoskeletal) systems.
- Help for Patients: It provides a full, high-quality picture of the body part while also using up to 30% less radiation than older machines. Its wide, comfortable table holds patients up to 500 pounds, making imaging easier and safer for everyone.
- Help for Providers: NMC Health can now handle a broader set of complicated procedures that need clear guidance. Plus, patients receive comfortable care and minimized radiation thanks to the system’s dose-saving features.
- Canon RadPRO OMNERA 400T: Faster X-Rays. This strong, fast digital X-ray system will be used in our main imaging rooms and for emergencies.
- Help for Patients: The machine works very fast. X-ray images are taken and ready to view right away. This is very important in emergency cases and means patients wait less time for a clear diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Help for Providers: Doctors can get faster X-ray results for general and trauma cases. It can also be lowered for easy patient transfer with a weight capacity up to 600 pounds. This quick and more comfortable service helps get clear answers sooner to move forward with a patient’s care without delays.
“Our main job at NMC Health is to protect and defend the health of everyone in our community. That means we have to look forward and take action,” said Val Gleason, President and CEO of NMC Health. “This most recent investment shows our commitment to bringing the highest quality medical technology to Newton. We want to ensure that our neighbors can get the best care right here at home.”
Two of the new systems are already starting to help patients, and the third system will come on line in February, 2026.
