Newton Medical Center (NMC) announced today that Todd Tangeman, the hospital’s chief operating officer, has been named chief human resources officer.

In this new dual role, Tangeman will launch strategic human resources initiatives that include workforce planning and development. In coordination with the human resources department, he will lead the organization’s effort to develop effective strategies for ongoing talent acquisition and employee engagement and retention. Tangeman will also lead a multidisciplinary effort to develop an NMC Management University curriculum, participation in which is envisioned to be a standard for all management staff and available to those who wish to advance into management.

“It is said that for a person entering college today, most will find work doing jobs that do not currently exist,” said Val Gleason, president and CEO of NMC. “We must continue to develop an inquisitive, skilled and resilient workforce capable of creating constant change that improves the patient experience. With Todd’s extensive background in human resources, I truly believe that he is up to this challenge.”

“Our team, “the workforce”, at Newton Medical Center is comprised of people — individuals who live in and around our community who have families, friends, lives and dreams they are living out each day. We value these individuals, our team members,” said Tangeman. “I am enthused about this added role and the opportunity to adjust my focus to include developing a comprehensive “people” strategy with the aim of strengthening our team.”

Tangeman joined NMC in 2006 as director of human resources and has served as COO since 2014. He has over 25 years of experience in human resources and is a certified professional in human resources.
