NEWTON, Kan., (April 30, 2025) – Newton, KS — NMC Health is pleased to announce an award from Million Hearts® to implement evidence-based strategies to increase access to and utilization of cardiac rehabilitation though the Million Hearts® Advancing Cardiac Rehabilitation Project.
Along with ten other organizations across the country, NMC Health will implement the awarded project between April–July 2025. The goal of the grant is to increase access to and utilization of cardiac rehabilitation and, ultimately, to improve the health of people living with a variety of cardiovascular conditions. To this end, the project team at NMC Health will focus on early intervention. Research shows that cardiac rehabilitation saves lives.
Enhancing Cardiac Rehabilitation Through Early Intervention
NMC Health’s grant program will implement a system-based approach to overcoming barriers in referrals and participation in Cardiac Rehabilitation. It will ensure sustainable improvements in Cardiac Rehabilitation access and patient outcomes, fostering heart-healthy recovery for patients at risk of recurrent cardiac events.
“Individuals who would benefit from cardiac rehabilitation can sometimes slip through the cracks,” noted NMC Health Director of Outpatient Services Tad Parsons. “Someone who had a minor cardiac event may end up in the hospital a few months later after a fall on the ice. Our new system will help identify these individuals so we can provide therapy that can improve their cardiac and physical strength, lowering their risk of future hospitalizations.”
NMC Health looks forward to sharing lessons learned from this project in the future. Stay tuned for details on project progress and accomplishments.
