Q: Why are you excited to join NMC Health?

A: After working in a large health system for years, I am excited to join NMC Health, a smaller health system that seems more personal, but is committed to caring for people.

Q: Why did you choose to have a career in healthcare?

A: I chose a career in health care with the help of my primary care doctor, the late George Watson, D.O.. He allowed me the opportunity to shadow at his clinic while I was in college exploring different careers. At the time of my shadowing, I was pursuing an electrical engineering degree. This office shadowing experience allowed me to experience a career that seemed to more directly be a part of making a difference in people’s lives. I prayed for direction and felt that God was calling me to pursue medicine as my career.

Q: What is (are) your specialty(ies) and why did you choose it (them)?

A:  My specialty is Family Medicine. I have practiced in both Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine during my career. I am returning to full-time Family Medicine because I think this setting will allow me a better opportunity to make a long-term difference in the lives of patients.

Q: What inspires you to do what you do every day?

A: My inspiration to practice medicine is to help others, as most would say. I have recently become interested in metabolic health and the explosion of the metabolic syndrome and diabetes. I have pursued new training to allow me to help patients achieve better outcomes and live healthier lives through lifestyle intervention.

Q: What is your favorite thing about working with patients?

A:  My favorite thing about my position is it affords the privilege of sharing my knowledge and training to help make patients’ lives better.

Q:  What is your top priority when providing healthcare?

A:  My top priority when providing healthcare is meeting patients where they are to provide safe and effective care.

Q: What are your favorite things to do outside of the office?

A: My favorite thing to do outside of the office is spending time with my family. I enjoy being active in church and bible study small group. My wife and I also like to travel and explore when possible.

Q:  If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in healthcare, what would it be?

A:  My advice to someone considering healthcare is to educate yourself about the field, shadow others in practice, get input from other people that know you, and pray to see if this is truly your calling.

Q:  What’s the best advice you received?

A:  The best advice that I have ever received is: love God and love people.

Q:  What’s one thing you wish every patient knew?

A:  One thing that I wish every patient knew is that they are the most important part of their treatment failure or success.
