Find relief for stubborn muscle pain
Do you live with constant muscle tightness, knots, or pain that won’t go away? You do not have to just live with it. At NMC Health, our trained physical therapists use dry needling to release tight spots. We help you move better and get back to what you love – without pain.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a safe method our therapists use to treat muscle pain and stiffness.
During a visit, a therapist places a very thin, clean needle directly into a “trigger point.” This is a tight band of muscle that causes pain in that spot or throws pain to other areas. The needle wakes up the muscle and makes it “twitch.” This twitch tells the muscle to let go of its tension and start healing.
Dry Needling vs. Acupuncture
Both methods use thin needles, but they are very different:
- Acupuncture comes from old Chinese medicine. It focuses on balancing your body’s energy flow.
- Dry Needling is a modern medical method. It focuses only on your muscles and nerves. We target the exact spots causing your pain to help you move better.
Conditions We Treat
Dry needling works well for both new and long-term muscle problems. Our team often adds it to your regular physical therapy plan to help with:
- Neck and Back Pain: Relieving stiff spots and tension headaches.
- Sports Injuries: Treating pulled muscles in your legs, calves, or shoulders.
- Tendon Pain: Fixing overuse problems like tennis elbow or heel pain.
- Sciatica: Reducing deep aches in your glutes and legs.
- Stiff Joints: Helping your shoulders, hips, and knees move freely.
What to Expect During Treatment
Your first visit starts with a full checkup. Your therapist wants to make sure dry needling is the best way to help you heal.
- We locate the tight muscle knots causing your pain.
- The therapist places a clean needle into the muscle. You might feel a quick pinch or some pressure.
- The muscle will quickly twitch and then relax. This shows that the tension is gone.
Your muscle might feel sore for a day or two. It feels like you did a hard workout. Drinking water and light stretching will help you recover fast.

FAQs
Most people say it feels like a quick pinch, followed by a dull ache or a muscle twitch. It is easy to handle, and many people feel much better right after their visit.
This depends on your pain. Some people feel better after 1 to 3 visits. Long-term problems might need a few weeks of treatment mixed into your regular physical therapy sessions.
You can call us directly to set up an evaluation or treatment, however, because some insurance providers require a referral to pay for your visits, we will gladly check your benefits before you arrive.
Yes. At NMC Health, only licensed physical therapists do this treatment. They have extra training and certificates in dry needling. We also use only clean, brand-new needles that are thrown away after one use.
