NEWTON, Kan., (September 10, 2026) – NMC Health Orthopedics & Sports Specialists has earned a top award for bone care once again. The American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) gave NMC Health its “Star Performer” award for the Own the Bone® program.
NMC Health’s orthopedics team has won this award every year since 2018. The award shows that our providers give great care to patients with broken bones and weak bones. To win this award, NMC Health’s team must do a great job with bone safety. They must test bone strength, teach patients how to take calcium and vitamin D, and help prevent falls. Doctors also work together to keep track of patient health.
“As an orthopedic surgeon, I have seen how bad broken bones can be,” said Dr. Charles Craig, Chief Medical Officer at NMC Health. “We do more than just fix a broken bone. We find high-risk patients early. Then we give them care to stop future breaks. This helps our patients live long, healthy lives.”
Why Post-Facture Care Matters
More than 53 million people in the U.S. have weak bones. Many do not know it until they break a bone. A single broken bone raises the risk for more breaks. NMC Health works to stop those extra breaks before they happen.
What is Own the Bone®
Own the Bone® is a national program created by the American Orthopaedic Association. It helps hospitals track patient care and prevent future broken bones.
